    Moissanite vs Diamond

Some people say Moissanite is a diamond look-alike. Why? Properly cut by jewelers, Moissanite has unbelievable fire and brilliance that exceeds that of a diamond. In fact, it exceeds any known gemstone or other man-made material. It’s only natural that people want to compare Moissanite to a diamond, which has been the gemstone equated with the most beauty. Seeing is believing. Without special instruments, most gemologists cannot tell the difference between a diamond and Moissanite. But seeing the sparkle and shine of a moissanite gemstone makes even the most seasoned jewelers gasp. That sparkle, however, is just the beginning of understanding its beauty. For those that do not know anything about Moissanite, we have created a chart to help you compare to other, more familiar gemstones.

    The takeaway:

Greater dispersion (“fire”) and refractive index (“brilliance”) create more sparkle than any other known gemstone

Harder than a sapphire and second in hardness only to a diamond

Extremely resistant to scratching, abrasion, breaking, and chipping

Extraordinarily heat resistant.  Tests have proven that with the intensity equivalent to a house fire, moissanite remains intact.
